Surprise No. 1 qualifiers, heated Funny Car battle highlight opening session
Even a pair of surprise low qualifiers in Rod Fuller in Top Fuel and Erica Enders in Pro Stock couldn't steal the headlines at the 41st annual
Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals from the ongoing three-car Funny Car championship fight. A John Force Racing Mustang is parked
atop the Funny Car field, but it's not the one that Force envisioned as rookie of the year contender Robert Hight (pictured) pushed his Ford to the
No. 1 spot with a 4.745. Points leader Gary Scelzi is sixth with a 4.778, and second-place Capps is in the No. 3 hole with a 4.768. Force, meanwhile,
smoked the tires and is not in the field. Fuller grabbed the favorite's spot in Top Fuel in his bid for his first pole position with a 4.504, and
Enders made a strong bid for her first No. 1 with a near-track-record 6.696. In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Las Vegas low qualifier Ryan Schnitz is making

Enders birthday party open to the public
Pro Stock driver Erica Enders will turn 22 Saturday and her sponsor, Slammers Ultimate Milk, is throwing her a birthday party to mark the occasion.
Enders, a Pro Stock finalist last weekend in Chicago, is looking forward to a great time with her friends and fans at the racetrack. "When they moved
the race it happened to fall on my birthday," Enders said. "I was just hoping for a win as my birthday present, but then Slammers decided to throw
this party for me too. They told me they are going to open it up for the fans, and I thought, 'wow how cool.' It should be a blast." The centerpiece
of the party will be a three dimensional cake replica of a Pro Slammers bottle, and three other cakes with the likenesses of Enders and her racecar.
The cake masterpieces where created under the direction of Chef Instructor Lynn Mattie, head of the pastry and bakery arts program at the El Centro
College of Culinary Arts School. El Centro's culinary arts program is accredited by the American Culinary Federation. A team of five students
training for their chef certification have been working on the cakes. "The students were happy to help," Mattie said. "They are just forming a new
club and this was a perfect project for them. Everyone is having fun and we are all excited to see the final outcome. I can honestly say this is the
first time we have ever made a giant milk bottle out of cake and taken it to a racetrack."

by rookie Erica Enders. The marketing partnership is effective immediately, and will continue throughout the remainder of the 2005 NHRA POWERade
Season. "We are pleased to have Motel 6 and Accor hotels a part of our program," team owner Victor Cagnazzi said. "This sponsorship is yet another
confirmation of Motel 6's commitment to the sport, the NHRA and the many drag racing fans around the country. Erica and all of us here at Cagnazzi
Racing are proud to be associated with such a fine organization." The Motel 6 brand is already an active NHRA drag racing supporter. Current
involvement includes the popular "Who Got the Light" award, and sponsorship of "Motel 6 Vision" which is watched by thousands of spectators every
year at drag racing events around the country. "We are seeing impressive results from our current NHRA programs," said Eric Studer, Sr. VP of
Marketing Services for Motel 6. "We see tremendous value in drag racing, and feel it is the most cost effective motorsport available in the
marketplace. "I've been watching Erica's career for some time, and I'm very impressed by that young lady. Erica is a great spokesperson, and we feel
she can introduce our product to a larger and more diversified audience than we currently have." Motel 6 joins the list of current Cagnazzi Racing
supporters, including General Motors, SunCom Wireless, Chicago Pneumatic, Livin' It, SportLite, Berger Chevy, and Global Debt Services.

Chicago Pneumatic to back Enders
Leading global automotive tool manufacturer Chicago Pneumatic announced an associate sponsorship deal with Cagnazzi Racing and driver Erica Enders.
The agreement begins with this weekend's O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park. Chicago Pneumatic will activate the sponsorship
through product promotion, advertising, promotional collateral materials, at-track hospitality, merchandising, and autograph appearances with Enders
at race tracks and trade shows. "We chose Cagnazzi Racing as our marketing partner because the team shares Chicago Pneumatics' dedication to
excellence and commitment to success," said Jay Lewis, Chicago Pneumatic National Sales Manager, Vehicle Service Business. "We're also excited to
work with Erica at the earliest stage of what we believe will be a very impressive professional racing career." Enders, 21, has been a drag racer
since age 8. She has won hundreds of elimination and qualifying rounds, and 44 events, mostly in a Jr. Dragster. Her last victory, in the Super Gas
category, came last April in Houston. She is only the fifth woman in history to compete in the extremely competitive Pro Stock division. A student at
Texas A&M University in College Station, Enders is perhaps best-known for the Disney Channel movie "Right on Track," which followed her life in the
Jr. Dragster ranks. Last year, Disney Channel viewers honored it as the most popular sports movie of the year. It continues to rotate in the Disney
Channel inventory with consistently high ratings. Chicago Pneumatic's Vehicle Service Business engineers, manufactures, and markets a complete line
of pneumatic, cordless, and electric power tools for the professional vehicle technician. The company is dedicated to continually providing the best
in design, ergonomics, quality and performance for professional vehicle technicians and consumers who depend on their tools. More information may be

A racing rarity: Enders turns down sponsor to avoid conflict
Pro Stock drag racer Erica Enders has chosen to enter the 2007 season without the support of Revive-USA, the Dallas-based food, nutrition, and
beverage company that sponsored her for the last four races in 2006. Citing a potential conflict of interest with POWERade and Coca-Cola's Full
Throttle energy drink, Enders passed on a three-year option with Revive-USA.

GM racers visit Riley Hospital for Children
For the sixth straight year, drivers from the GM Racing program made their annual stop at the world renowned Riley Hospital for Children on
Thursday, Sept. 1. Signing autographs, and visiting with the kids and their families were Greg Anderson, Jason Line, Erica Enders, Dave Connolly,
Jim Yates, Morgan Lucas, Cory McClenathan, Dale Creasy, and Ron Krisher. It is the third time this season that the GM Racing contingent has spread
good cheer at a children's hospital in conjunction with a locally held national event. All of the children who participated in today's visit received
a goody bag from GM Racing and autographed photos from the drivers. "We always look forward to visiting Riley Hospital for Children," said Fred
Simmonds, GM Group Manager of Drag Racing. "The drivers are just great with the kids and every year they ask, 'when are we going back to Riley
Hospital?' They really enjoy seeing the kids, their families and the staff, and it's something we will continue to do in the future. Over the years
we've made some good friends at Riley, and this visit has become a special part of our U.S. Nationals race weekend and our race season. We hope that
everyone at Riley enjoys the visit as much as we do." Riley Hospital for Children is Indiana's only comprehensive children's hospital, with pediatric
specialists in every field of medicine and surgery. Riley is committed to providing the highest quality care to children in a compassionate, family-
centered environment. Riley is a national leader in cutting edge research and medical education, ensuring health care excellence for children for
generations to come. Riley provides medical care to all Indiana children, regardless of their family's ability to pay. "This is one of the neatest
things we get to do," said Krisher. "I'm telling you what, this is the best thing that General Motors has come up with. I hope we continue it, expand
it, go to other places and visit with as many kids as we can. There's nothing like it. My eyes light up as much as theirs do and I know the other
drivers enjoy it as much as I do."
